A bedroom makeover can be a fun and inexpensive project for family time. Just about all children love to personalize their rooms and create spaces that capture their personality. A room makeover can be a great project that the whole family can get in on, or a special project for one-on-one time with your child.
Brainstorm
Start out with a blank sheet of paper and, with your child, write and draw the features of their dream room. This part is about dreaming big and writing down everything, from the perfect wall color to the coolest desk set-up. Talk about ideas for special features, practical workstations for school and for play, and how he or she would arrange the furniture that is in the room now.
Shop for Supplies
A fresh coat of paint will immediately change any room. Take your child to pick out paint and have them help redo their room as much as they can depending on their age. Next, check out party supply stores for fun decorations like fake flowers, tulle, and sparkly decorations. These can all be re-purposed in a bedroom. Artistic kids may want to paint a mural in a section of their room for something completely unique. Antique shops can be a great place to find furniture and inexpensive additions that can be painted or redone to fit into the design of the room.
Organize Everything
Once the major work is done, help your child to organize everything back into their new space. Designate places for toys, collections, and prized items to keep everything organized and provide a space that can be clean in seconds.
Taking the time to do a room makeover is a great way to spend quality time with a child and show them that you care about their tastes and choices.
