Domestic Violence

Resources for Domestic Violence in the Muslim Community

As of 2020, domestic violence affects nearly 12 million or so of the population due to the current pandemic, war and conflict, poverty, and natural disasters. In East Africa and Haiti, there are limited resources available. Our non-profit organization, Stepping Together, provides domestic violence training for employers, teachers, healthcare workers, community workers, and more. This training includes recognizing the warning signs of intimate partner violence (or domestic violence) and how to prevent/approach the abuser, subdue them, and help the victims with available resources.

  • Almost half of both women and men have experienced physical aggression from their partner
  • Although women are more often victims of IPV, 4% of men also report domestic violence
  • Almost 33% of women killed on the job were killed by an intimate partner
  • Domestic violence training is crucial to protect the people you serve, like students or patients.

Raising Awareness

It is an opportunity to bring the issue to the forefront, advocating for change, celebrate survivors, and mourn those who have tragically lost their lives to domestic violence. Domestic violence is a deep-rooted issue that affects our family members, friends, colleagues, and many other community members. A few ways to raise awareness of domestic and sexual violence:

  • Educate Yourself – They say knowledge is power and having the correct information will help empower yourself and others
  • Speak Up – Do not be afraid to speak up for yourself, tell friends, your local healthcare worker, or a community leader – and don’t stop until you have been heard
  • Share Resources – Stepping Together mission is to provide various resources, even an outreach for those who need a safe place

Our organization wants to empower local communities with reducing and getting rid of domestic violence. Call us in Castro Valley, CA, and New York, NY.
